Associations and Listservs

Library Associations:

CHLA/ABSC: Canada Health Libraries Association: Created in 1976, CHLA is an organization consisting of members in health sciences library field across Canada. Their main purpose is to provide professional development, networking, and advocacy for hospital librarians and information professionals in various health-library related fields. Student membership is $50/year.


VALL: Vancouver Association of Law Libraries:According to their website, VALL is a “forum for information exchange and continuing education” for anyone involved in law libraries. Formed in 1988, this association is membership only. Student membership is free if you’re currently in the Langara LIT program or equivalent.


CALL: Canadian Association of Law Libraries: By offering annual meetings, conferences, mentorships, and volunteer/employment opportunities, CALL has sustained loyal memberships of law library professionals across Canada for over 50 years. Student membership is only $15/year!


Listservs:

The Medical Library Association (MLA): This listserv enables discussion for medical librarians. The mission of MLA includes lifelong learning and professional development; recruitment, membership, and leadership in the profession; advocacy for quality health information and the role health information professionals play in this process; develop and manage a knowledge base of health information research; and build a network of experts.


The Canadian Association of Law Libraries (CALL-L): In this listserv, a range of law library topics are discussed including reference question assistance, the value of online databases, website recommendations, interlibrary loans, and more.
