Library Technology Programs

In order to pursue a career in a Medical or Law Library, you must have the necessary credentials. Most library technology jobs are looking for candidates with a Diploma in Library & Information Technology. For higher level positions, it is an asset to have a Master’s Degree in Library and Information Studies.

Below, we have listed examples of LIT Diplomas and MLIS Degrees in both British Columbia and Alberta:

LIT Diplomas

Langara College: Library & Information Technology: This program offers both regular in-class participation and flexible participation (online and in-class) for students. The duration of this program is 2 years with 20 courses if taken full-time. Courses are offered both in the fall and spring, with a select few offered in the summer. Langara’s LIT program has limited enrolment and therefore it is recommended you apply far in advance. Fall 2019 intake begins in early April. Apply here!

SAIT: Library and Information Technology: Located in Calgary, Alberta, the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology offers a 2 year, 21-course LIT program for full-time and part-time students. Classes are offered both online, in-class, and “blended.” Students are accepted into the program on a “first-qualified, first-accepted” basis and are currently accepting students for the part-time program.
